A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common bacterial infection affecting the bladder and urinary system. It can cause discomfort when passing urine, increased urgency, and lower abdominal pain.
π₯ Under the NHS Pharmacy First service, eligible patients can receive assessment and treatment directly from a pharmacist, without needing to see a GP.
Who Can Use This Service?
You may be eligible for treatment at Neils Pharmacy if:
β You are a woman aged 16 to 64
β You have symptoms of an uncomplicated lower UTI
β Symptoms started recently
β You are not pregnant
β You do not have signs of a more serious infection

Common Symptoms of a UTI
Symptoms may include:
π₯ Burning or stinging when passing urine
π» Needing to urinate more frequently or urgently
π§ Passing small amounts of urine
π§ͺ Cloudy, dark, or strong-smelling urine
π€ Lower abdominal or pelvic discomfort
UTIs are common and usually straightforward to treat when identified early.
How We Can Help
If you are eligible, our pharmacist may:
π©Ί Carry out a clinical assessment
π Supply antibiotics where clinically appropriate
π§ Provide advice on hydration and symptom relief
π Offer guidance on preventing future infections
π€ Refer you to your GP or another service if required
π All consultations are confidential and take place in a private consultation room.
When You Should NOT Use This Service
You should seek urgent medical advice or contact your GP if:
β You are pregnant
β You have fever, chills, nausea, or vomiting
β You have back or flank pain
β There is blood in your urine
β You are male or under 16
β Symptoms are severe, worsening, or recurrent
If needed, our pharmacist will ensure you are safely referred to the appropriate healthcare service.
