Acute otitis Media
NHS Pharmacy First – Ear Infection Treatment at Neils Pharmacy
Ear Infection (Acute Otitis Media) – Pharmacy First Service
An ear infection (also called acute otitis media) is common in children and young people. It happens when the middle ear becomes inflamed, often after a cold or upper respiratory infection.
👂 Ear infections can cause ear pain, fever, and temporary hearing changes.
🏥 Under the NHS Pharmacy First service, eligible patients can receive assessment and treatment directly from a pharmacist, without needing to see a GP.
Who Can Use This Service?
You may be eligible for treatment at Neils Pharmacy if:
✅ The patient is aged 1 to 17 years
✅ Symptoms started within the last 7 days
✅ Symptoms are mild to moderate
✅ There is no severe illness or complications
🩺 Our pharmacist will carry out a private consultation to confirm whether this service is appropriate.
Important Age Criteria
The NHS Pharmacy First ear infection service is commissioned for children and young people only.
This service is available for patients aged 1 to 17 years.
👨⚕️ Adults with ear pain or suspected ear infection should contact their GP, NHS 111, or another appropriate NHS service for assessment.
If ear discomfort in adults is caused by blocked ears rather than infection, our ear wax removal service may be suitable.
